COVID-19 Update: New Palmerston public exposure sites

Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet

A number of new COVID-19 public exposure sites have been identified across the Palmerston area, following two new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the NT.

The two new cases are household contacts of the mine worker in Palmerston. The family members have been in quarantine at Howard Springs since Saturday and remain in quarantine under the care of NT Health.

The new COVID-19 public exposure sites include one close contact site at a Palmerston Zumba ‘pop up’ class at the recreation centre, a number of casual contact sites including at the Palmerston flea market and several retail stores at the Gateway Shopping Centre.

It is important that all people in the Northern Territory continue to check the COVID-19 website to review the list of public exposure sites to make sure you are complying with the health directions. The list of public exposure sites will be updated as new information is provided through contact tracing.

The list of NT COVID-19 Public Exposure Sites is at: https://coronavirus.nt.gov.au/stay-safe/case-location-alerts-and-public-exposure-sites

People who have visited a NT public exposure site are defined as either close contacts, casual contacts or low risk contacts and depending on the level of risk are required to undertake quarantine, get tested for COVID-19 or monitor for symptoms.

To arrange a COVID test, book online at coronavirus.nt.gov.au or contact the COVID-19 Hotline on 1800 490 484.

The Marrara Drive-Through Testing Site is open until 8pm tonight. Bookings made online will be fast-tracked however people can still attend the site without an appointment and our health teams will assist you to get tested.

When attending the Marrara Drive-Through Testing Site please ensure you wear a mask, stay in your car and bring photo ID and your Medicare card. You can also get tested at the Royal Darwin Hospital Pandemic Clinic and the Palmerston GP Super Clinic (Respiratory Clinic).

Our contact tracers are continuing to identify, trace and isolate contacts associated with the Newmont Tanami mine cluster. They have made significant progress, but there is still more work to do.

As we’ve seen across Australia, short sharp action is effective in stopping the transmission of COVID-19. The lockdown across the Greater Darwin area remains in place until 1pm on Friday 2 July 2021.

We thank the community for continuing to follow the health directions and stay at home.

There are only be five reasons to leave home. These include:

·         To receive health care or attend medical appointments. Including to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

·         To undertake shopping and get necessary goods and services. Supermarkets will stay open, so there is no need to stock up on groceries.

·         To exercise for up to one hour a day within 5km of your home and only with members of your household or one other person.

·         To undertake essential work. If you can work from home – you must work from home.

·         In case of an emergency or if there is family violence or to provide essential care to a loved one or dependent.

Masks must be worn at all times when leaving home, including when undertaking any form of exercise. Personal behaviour remains our best defence against COVID-19
