New COVID-19 drive-through testing site opens

Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet

A new drive-through COVID-19 testing site will open at the CDU Netball Stadium in Marrara tomorrow to accommodate an increase in the demand for testing following hotspot declarations.

Online bookings can be made for the drive-through testing site from 7.30pm tonight at https://covid19appointment.nt.gov.au/test

Staffing capacity at the Royal Darwin Hospital Pandemic Clinic, the Palmerston Respiratory Clinic, the Katherine Pandemic Clinic and the Todd Facility Drive-Through has also been increased and operating hours have been extended over the weekend.

Those people who arrived in the Northern Territory from the Greater Melbourne and Bendigo hotspots between 12 May 2021 and 12.00am on 27 May 2021 are required to isolate, get a COVID-19 test and remain in self-quarantine until a negative is returned.

Compliance with the CHO Directions has been fantastic and we thank those people impacted by the hotspot declaration for getting tested and remaining in self-quarantine.

COVID-19 Hotline

You can book a COVID-19 test by calling the COVID-19 Hotline on 1800 490 484

The COVID-19 Hotline is experiencing a high volume of calls and as a result there is a wait-time for call-backs. Please only call the hotline once, use the ‘request a call-back feature’, and a staff member will return your call as soon as possible.

Call-back’s come from No Caller ID numbers so please have your phone switched on and be sure to answer.

Advice for Travellers

Travellers impacted by the CHO directions relevant to Victoria are asked to stop travelling and remain where you are until you have received advice from the COVID-19 Hotline.

This is particularly important for travellers moving through regional centres and remote areas of the Northern Territory.

Anyone in a regional area either in a campervan, camping or in accommodation must:

·         Stop travelling and stay where you are

·         Call the COVID-19 Hotline on 1800 490 484, and request a call-back

·         A staff member will advise you of your closest testing centre, how to get there safely and answer any questions

Border Entry

Anyone who has crossed a border into the Northern Territory is legally required to complete an Online Border Arrival Form. Completing the form allows NT Health to provide you with timely and accurate advice in relation to hotspot declarations that may impact you.

If you cross a border by road from a declared hotspot, you must proceed to the first major centre (either Alice Springs or Darwin), do not enter a remote community.

Quotes attributable to Chief Health Officer, Dr Charles Pain

“Territorians and travellers to the NT are doing a fantastic job in following the health Directions to get tested and self-quarantine until a negative test is returned.

“By having a hotspot declaration and broad testing requirements we are doing our best to make sure COVID-19 does not enter the NT.

“The more testing we do, the lower the risk of COVID-19 spreading across our community. I would like to thank everyone for your patience as we work through the increased demand in calls to the COVID-19 Hotline and in booking COVID-19 tests.”
