CHO Directions for South Australia

Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet

The Chief Health Officer (CHO) has issued additional directions for South Australia, in connection to the positive community case recorded yesterday in Victoria.

The CHO directions apply to anyone who has, or intends, to arrive into the Northern Territory, and stayed on Level 3 at the Playford Hotel in Adelaide, between 19 April and 4 May 2021.

·         1A: Anyone who arrives into the Northern Territory after 12.01am on 14 May 2021 must enter mandatory supervised quarantine at their first port of arrival (either Alice Springs or Darwin), including by road. They must remain in quarantine (unless to get tested) until noon of the 14th day after they were on this floor at the hotel, regardless of whether they return a negative COVID-19 test.

·         1B: If the 14 day quarantine period has already expired at the time of arrival into the Northern Territory, the person must remain in mandatory supervised quarantine until they return a negative test.

·         2A: Anyone who is already in the Northern Territory must immediately get a COVID-19 test, and undertake quarantine at home or a suitable place until noon of the 14th day after they were in at the hotel, regardless of whether they return a negative COVID-19 test.

·         2B: If the 14 day period has already expired, the person must remain in self-isolation until they return a negative test.

To arrange a test, please contact the COVID-19 Hotline on 1800 490 484 or book online at: https://covid19appointment.nt.gov.au/test

Additionally, all Chief Health Officer Directions relating to Victorian public exposure sites declared yesterday remain in effect.

Anyone who has arrived in the Northern Territory from Victoria since 5 May 2021 is asked to review the Victorian public exposure sites.

The public exposure sites have expanded since yesterday, and can be found at: https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/exposure-sites#public-exposure-sites-in-victoria.

If a venue is added or a tier is upgraded, impacted people are required to identify themselves to Northern Territory health authorities, and follow the relevant directions.

In addition to this, the Chief Health Officer has revoked testing directions for Western Australia and Queensland.

The Chief Health Officer will continue to review and assess the COVID-19 situation across Australia.

The risk of COVID-19 in our communities cannot be eliminated which is why it is important for everyone to follow all health directions.

·         If you have COVID-19 symptoms, do not travel. Make sure you get tested and stay at home.

·         Maintain a physical distance of 1.5 metres at all times.

·         Wash your hands with soap and water and use hand sanitiser regularly.

·         Do not go to work if you feel sick.

·         If you have symptoms, stay away from others and get tested for COVID-19.

Quotes attributable to Chief Health Officer, Dr Charles Pain

“These directions add an extra layer of protection for Territorians, particularly as interstate travel is increasing and the number of tourists visiting the Territory is on the rise.

“I will continue to introduce proportionate, targeted measures to protect the health of Territorians, as such outbreaks continue to occur across Australia. I appreciate everyone’s vigilance and trust that those who are coming to enjoy the Territory during our beautiful Dry Season will help protect us all by complying with my directions and that they will recognise their obligation to remain alert to the advice that I issue, as well as the health directions issued in other states or territories to help keep us safe.

“Australians will have noticed that Chief Health Officers across Australia have been able to introduce consistent and proportionate directions in response to outbreaks in recent weeks and will continue to do so, if Australians continue to play their part in keeping these outbreaks under control.

“These situations serve as a reminder to us all about the importance of remaining vigilant.

“Steps such as wearing masks in airports, completing border entry forms on arrival, checking-in at Territory venues and most importantly getting tested when you have symptoms remain our best defence against COVID-19.”
