Parrtjima shining brightly with eight nights to go

Northern Territory Major Events Company

Parrtjima – A Festival in Light has attracted more than 5000 attendances over the first two nights, with visitors inspired by the large-scale light and art installations, and an action-packed program of events that includes music, workshops, talks and film. Highlights so far have been a spine-tingling exclusive live performance by Electric Fields in front of the MacDonnell Ranges light show, Casey Donovan wowing the crowd and author Bruce Pascoe captivating an eager audience.

One of tonight’s star attractions is NRL legend Josh Addo-Carr, who joins the talks program to discuss his life and premiership-winning career with Parrtjima Curator Rhoda Roberts. Spreading the word about Parrtjima to his followers and the sporting world, Josh will also take part in an NRLNT clinic tomorrow, where he will meet some of the region’s rising rugby league stars and show them a trick or two. The event will take place on the Church Lawns in Todd Mall from 10-11am, and the Alice Springs community and visitors to the region are all welcome to come along and join the activity.

While at Parrtjima, Josh will also film with Fox Sports. Combined with footage of some of the Territory’s unique tourism experiences, the content will be used to promote the NRL’s indigenous round, showcasing Parrtjima to a new audience of millions and reminding Australians all over the country why they should choose the Territory for their next holiday.

Other highlights over the coming week include OKA, Shellie Morris and Ziggy Ramo on stage, and workshops covering everything from skateboard painting and metal sculpture to singing in language and cooking with bushfoods.

Parrtjima runs from 9-18 April 2021 at Alice Springs Desert Park, Todd Mall and Araluen Arts Centre. It is free to attend but you must register at www.parrtjima.com.au

Quotes from NT Major Events CEO Tim Watsford:

“The theme of this year’s Parrtjima is Future Kultcha, and the addition of Josh to the program has helped connect a whole new demographic to the festival.

“We continue to look for interesting ways to spread the word about Parrtjima, to bring maximum benefits to the Red Centre community, and the Fox Sports footage Josh is taking part in will see images of Parrtjima spread far and wide to a national TV audience.

“Combined with footage of our unique tourism offerings, this is great exposure for Parrtjima and the Territory.”

Quotes from NRL player Josh Addo-Carr:

“I feel incredibly lucky to be involved with Parrtjima. This is such an opportunity to not only experience the spiritual Red Centre, but also connect with the local community through sport. I know how important sport is in small communities, and am looking forward to testing the skills of the up-and-coming Alice rugby league stars! I feel very honoured to be here on Arrernte country.”
