Opportunity to deliver an amazing experience at Window on the Wetlands

Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security

The Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security (DEPWS) is seeking expressions of interest from interested commercial operators to manage the 18.5 hectare site, Window on the Wetlands.

Located along the Arnhem highway, 70km East of Darwin, on Ludawei (Beatrice Hill) the site provides majestic views of the Adelaide River floodplain and is conveniently located for visitors travelling to Arnhem Land, Jumping Crocodile Cruises or Kakadu.

The Windows on the Wetlands building, constructed to represent the form of a dancing brolga, includes a two level visitor centre complete with amenities, café, and interactive display of the area with the top level viewing deck providing an uninterrupted 270 degree view of the wetlands.

The Limilngan-Wulna people maintain connection with Ludawei and commerical opportunities should recognise and respect the cultural significance of the site and the area.

There are more than 200,000 visitors annually to Kakadu, Mary River, Djukbinj National Parks and to Arnhem Land or beyond.

The Expression of Interest is open from today, 7 April 2021 and closes on Wednesday 5 May 2021.

Interested parties can register to attend a site visit on Friday 16 April by emailing Parks.EOI@nt.gov.au or call 8999 3638 for more information.

Quotes from Dr Aggie Wegner, Senior Director, Commercial and Community Partnerships

“This is a fantastic opportunity for a commercial operator to provide a new and extraordinary experience to visitors in a beautiful setting, iconic to the Top End.

“The site offers spectacular views of the Adelaide River floodplains, lightning storms and offers huge potential to service the drive market, organised tours and to provide services to independent travellers.

“Commercial operation of WOW will expand and enhance the visitor experience in the region and will create jobs and other opportunities for Territorians.

“It is hoped a dynamic operator will stimulate growth in visitation to this incredible attraction and give it a new lease of life.”
