Licensing approvals: Planning ahead for the festive season

Territory organisations and licensed venues are urged to plan ahead this festive season and not leave their liquor licensing approvals to the last minute for their Christmas and New Year events.

Territory community groups and associations planning events over the festive season are also reminded that they must hold a liquor licence if they intend to sell or provide alcohol.

Associations and groups can check the conditions of their liquor licence and seek assistance from Licensing NT.

Pubs and Clubs that hold an approved Late Night Authority to trade until 2am must notify the Director of Liquor Licensing in writing of their intention to extend their license by one hour to 3am on New Year’s Eve.

And Pubs and Clubs that hold an approved Extended Late Night Authority to trade until 4am, must also notify the Director of Liquor Licensing in writing of their intention to extend their licence by one hour to 5am on New Year’s Eve.

Extensions to both the Late Night Authority and the Extended Late Night Authority must be notified to the Director Liquor Licensing by 3 December.

Stephen Gelding, Director of Occupational Licensing and Associations Compliance said “don’t risk the last minute stress of not being prepared, seek advice early to ensure your festive season event is covered."

“Our local hospitality sector is an important part of the Northern Territory economy and we want to make sure pubs, clubs and community groups have a strong trading period this festive season.

“The Northern Territory Government encourages community groups and licensed venues to plan now so all Territorians can celebrate responsibly and safely this festive season.”

Businesses and organisation must also have their COVID-19 Safety plan in place.

New Chief Health Officer Directions came into effect on Monday, 30 November 2020, with a new COVID-19 Safety Check-In-System introduced across the Territory that requires customers and visitors to provide their contact details upon entry to a range of venues if spending more than 15 minutes there.

Businesses and organisations will also be required to comply with, and review their COVID-19 Safety Plan every six months, lodge a COVID event safety plan for major events and appoint a COVID Safety Supervisor from within their team to implement these plans.
