The Library and Archives NT (LANT) new digital platform improves access to and supports the discovery of Northern Territory historical collections.

Whilst LANT has been putting some of its collections online for many years, the previous interface was difficult to use, and did not provide the access to high-resolution materials.

The one-stop shop for research provides access to around 750,000 items including:

• photographs
• digitised maps
• government and parliamentary publications, audio files and videos
• parliamentary papers
• NT newspapers from the 19th century through to the present day
• journals and newsletters
• reports
• eBooks
• manuscripts. 

The intuitive and visually rich interface also enables users to directly download high-resolution images in TIFF and JPEG formats.

Territory Stories provides a showcase for LANT’s extensive collections.

It also enables Territorians to discover NT-related materials from other collecting institutions, including:

• the National Library of Australia
• state libraries around Australia
• the Legislative Assembly of the NT. 

The Department of Territory Families, Housing and Communities is continuing to develop partnerships with other collecting agencies to expand the scope of the material available through Territory Stories.

Increasing and improving access to Territory Stories means people have greater opportunities to participate in and experience our rich culture and history.

The new platform helps connect individuals and communities to our shared history.

Territory Stories is a valuable resource for people researching their family history or local community, searching for interesting social media content, or writing a school assignment.

The new Territory Stories platform is a significant leap for access to the region’s history through the improved search and sort functions.
