Get your workplace involved in National Safe Work Month

NT WorkSafe

Registrations are now open for the Northern Territory’s National Safe Work Month events. Held annually in October, National Safe Work Month is a time for employers and workers to focus on and review their work health and safety practices, and commit to improving health and safety in the workplace.

With the ongoing pandemic creating challenges in workplaces across Australia, the national theme for 2020 is Work Health and Safety through COVID-19.

The Northern Territory’s Work Health and Safety Regulator Bill Esteves says in work health and safety terms, COVID-19 in the workplace is a hazard and its risks can be managed through risk management processes and applying control measures that incorporate the latest health advice and directions from the Chief Health Officer.

“This year, we have a line-up of subject matter experts to help Territory businesses and workers to navigate COVID-19 should the situation change in the Territory.”

“There are topics for both employers and workers covering mental health, managing workplace hygiene, due diligence amongst others,” Mr Esteves said.

“In a first for Safe Work Month in the Territory, all events will be available online as webinars and Territorians with internet access can register and participate for free.”

“In Darwin, a venue has been organised for people that want to attend and watch the presentations. NT WorkSafe staff will be present at the venue to submit any questions to the presenter during the webinar,” said Mr Esteves.

“In the third week of October, infographics will be published on key work health and safety data for NT industries.”

“The infographics are to help employers identify the main causes of injury in their industry so they can review safe work policies and procedures, and use the data to make their workplace safer,” Mr Esteves said.

“I encourage all Territory businesses and workers to register for a webinar and get involved this October and make a commitment to improving safety in their workplace.”
