Support bushfire-affected communities this Australia Day at the Darwin Waterfront

Darwin Waterfront Corporation

Every dollar from every ticket sale into the Wave Lagoon over the Australia Day long weekend (25 to 27 January 2020) will be donated to the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery to support communities affected by bushfires across the country.

“This Australia Day we want to do our part to help get Australians back on their feet after the bushfires,” Sam Burke, General Manager, Darwin Waterfront Corporation said.

“On Australia Day we celebrate what’s great about this amazing country; and one of our greatest attributes is that we unite together in times of disaster to support those most in need.”

“$18 gets a family of five all day entry into the lagoon, while children (under 15 years) and seniors are $5 each and adults are $7. Every dollar will go straight to the Red Cross.”

“If you haven’t tried our Aqua Fitness classes, Australia Day weekend is the perfect opportunity. Classes are held at 8.30am on Sunday before the Wave Lagoon opens and costs (adults $12, children $8) includes all day entry into the lagoon.”

“If you can’t get to the Wave Lagoon over the long weekend, you can still donate via the Red Cross webpage and every donation over $2 is tax deductable.”

Trampoline Gelato will donate $1 from every gelato cup sold over the weekend, and RFDS Darwin Tourist Facility will also donate $1 for every entry ticket sold via the admissions area.

Other ways in which Waterfront businesses are raising money is listed in the attachment to this release.

Funds raised over the weekend will support the Red Cross’s Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund which includes recovery programs, practical support and emergency grants for communities affected by the ongoing bushfires.

Since July 2019, Red Cross teams have responded to 30 emergencies (some of which have been going for up to 6 weeks) and supported over 18 600 people, through the efforts of more than 1 590 volunteers and staff.
