Central Australia to host NRL stars for Community Training Camp

Northern Territory Major Events Company

Rugby League fans in the Red Centre will have the chance to meet their NRL heroes as part of a Parramatta Eels Club Community Training Camp being held in Alice Springs from Tuesday, 26 to Friday, 29 November.
A range of community initiatives are planned over the four days, giving both locals and visitors numerous opportunities to meet their favourite Parramatta Eels players.
In addition to open training sessions at ANZAC Oval, members of the public will be able to meet and greet the Eels team at a number of free events and activities including coaching clinics, school visits and community presentations.
An initiative called ‘Eels go Shopping’ is also planned, which will see members of the team work with young men of the Clontarf Foundation to assist local shoppers with their groceries from Woolworths in the Yeperenye Shopping Centre.
Following the Community Training Camp, the Parramatta Eels will return to the Territory in April next year as part of an ANZAC Day Eve clash against the Brisbane Broncos in Darwin.
To purchase ‘Territory Eel’ memberships or to find out more information about the match on Friday, 24 April at TIO Stadium, visit www.parraeels.com.au/membership/packages/part-season/territory-eel/.

Quotes from Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC) General Manager Tim Watsford:
“The Parramatta Eels have a large supporter base here in the Northern Territory and we are thrilled they are returning to the Red Centre for another Community Training Camp.
“It’s fantastic to see a wide range of free events and activities on offer including coaching clinics, school visits and community presentations.
“Not only does this training camp give locals the opportunity to meet some of the NRL’s biggest names, but it also highlights the calibre of professional sporting events that we are staging in the Northern Territory.”

Quotes from Parramatta Eels Club player Dylan Brown:
“The players are really excited about the trip to Alice Springs. I was fortunate to visit Darwin earlier this year when we played our NRL match against the Raiders, so I’m looking forward to seeing more of the Northern Territory.
“It gives us a chance to connect with the local community, our members and fans, and really give back for their ongoing support and loyalty.
“There’s a whole range of community activities planned, and we’re hoping to meet as many people as possible during our stay in Alice Springs.”

Quotes from Clontarf Foundation Regional Manager, NT Central Regional, Shaun Cusack:
“At Clontarf, we are always looking for rich, positive experiences that can be used as an extra tool to engage the boys in school.
“Through the support of the Northern Territory Government and the Parramatta Eels, our boys in Alice Springs have been provided such an opportunity through this amazing initiative, allowing them to interact with the Eels players in their local community. Undoubtedly, the smiles on the boys’ faces will say it all.”
