Sortli App Launch

Territory Families

Territory Families and CREATE Foundation have partnered together to launch a new app to assist young people in care transition to independence.

The app, designed for 15-21 year olds, is the first of its kind in the NT and provides a step-by-step guide for young people in care to navigate some of life’s biggest challenges including getting a job, finding a place to live, managing money and budgets and staying healthy.

The app called Sortli, which is a play on words ‘sort out your life’ is provided through CREATE Foundation.

Territory Families Chief Executive Ken Davies said this app will provide young people with the tools they need to live successful and independent lives.

“Whether young people are transitioning out of care or perhaps they’re young adults who need a little extra support, this app will provide the assistance they may require while navigating the often difficult waters of becoming an adult,” he said.

“Our young people use technology as part of their daily lives, so this app is designed to meet their needs, using a tool that they like to use to communicate and plan.”

The app allows young people to set goals and track achievements and puts them in contact with relevant support services as required.

Other services available on the app include getting your driver’s licence, renting a house, understanding legal rights, doing further study and mental health support.

Staff and carers supporting young people find Sortli to be a valuable companion to any form of transitioning to independence, planning or programs they are undertaking.

One CREATE Foundation young person in the NT said they really like the goal setting list in the app.

“I like being organised and this helps me know what I have to do. The overall design is cool and nicely laid out. The colours are nice and after using it for just two minutes, I’m already finding out heaps of helpful things,” they said.

The free Sortli app is available for smartphones through Google Play and the App Store.
