NT Health launches inclusion strategy

Department of Health

Today the agency launched the NT Health Inclusion Strategy: Respecting people with diverse sexualities and gender identities Plan of Actions 2019-2022.

“In the Territory, diversity is part of our fundamental makeup. Inclusion has long been at the core of how we deliver services,” Chief Executive Catherine Stoddart said.

“Through this initiative, at NT Health we will become more explicit in our service delivery and our workplaces in respecting, recognising, valuing, empowering and celebrating sexuality and gender diverse people.”

This strategy follows work by NT Health supporting the health of transgender and people with intersex conditions in 2018, and outlines aims and actions to improve our services and workplaces.

NT Health is working towards achieving the following goals:

  • Safe, high quality and inclusive services for sexuality and gender diverse people
  • Connected care through innovative and sustainable service pathways
  • A capable, inclusive and diverse workforce
  • Contemporary and accountable systems, records and processes
  • Engaged partners leading positive change for sexuality and gender diverse people, families and communities.

Consultation on the strategy took place with staff, consumers and members of sexuality and gender diverse community.

“This work will become embedded as the way we deliver our services, support our staff and promote continuous improvement,” Professor Stoddart said.

The strategy will be available online at https://health.nt.gov.au/health-governance/nt-health-strategies
