On 9 August 2018 Sister Marie Arthur commenced representative proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia against the Northern Territory Government on behalf of young people then in detention.

On 26 September 2019, with the approval of the Federal Court, with the consent of the parties the proceedings were dismissed with no order as to costs.

The Northern Territory Government acknowledges the positive contribution made by the Northern Territory Legal Aid Commission to resolve the proceedings by agreement.
