A fortnight of fun for the October school holidays

Darwin Waterfront Corporation

These October school holidays will be packed with a vibrant two week calendar of free fun at the Darwin Waterfront. Activities will be held each weekday from 10am to 12noon from Monday 30 September to Friday 11 October 2019.

Kids can get dancing from day one with a giant bubble disco. The Burning Circus will be pumping funky tunes and spreading bubble magic throughout the parklands.

If creativity is on the agenda, children can get crafting with a sand art and face painting play day, a brick building LEGO workshop or a morning of moulding and making slime.

A sports play day including rugby league, AFL Auskick and come and try soccer is one of the active inclusions to the program along with the opportunity to shoot some hoops at a skills and drills session on the newly installed 3X3 basketball court and a connect 4 inflatable basketball activity.

Little green thumbs can take part in a flower power workshop, planting sunflowers, hula hooping and dancing on the lawns.

To celebrate the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge commencing in Darwin, children can try their hand at building a solar powered car, boat or robot.

Making a return splash to the Recreation Lagoon, Surf Life Saving Northern Territory will facilitate a beach and boarding program as a water based inclusion to keep everyone cool.

All activities are targeted towards primary school aged children from 5 to 12 years. The diverse program enables children to learn new skills in a social and relaxed outdoor environment.

Patrons are reminded to be sun-smart and bring sunscreen, a hat and plenty of drinking water.

After the school holiday fun, families can stay a little longer and enjoy a picnic or lunch at a nearby café or restaurant and a swim.

The Wave Lagoon is open every day from 10am to 6pm. $18 gets a family of two adults and three kids all day entry, single entry is $5 for children and seniors, or $7 for adults.

Families can also enjoy the free Recreation Lagoon, which is fully patrolled by lifeguards from 9am to 6pm daily. Other free facilities include the beach volleyball court on the sand at the Recreation Lagoon and the 3X3 basketball court located beside the Wave Lagoon.
