Bruce Munro: Tropical Light – Local Businesses Develop New Tours

Northern Territory Major Events Company

Local Darwin businesses have developed new Tropical Light tours ready for Bruce Munro’s first city-wide exhibition which starts on 1 November 2019 and runs until 30 April 2020.

Darwin cruise company Sea Darwin is on board with 'Tropical Light: Unplugged Twilight Cruise', a sunset/twilight cruise between November 2019 to March 2020, offering views of Bruce Munro’s ‘Water Towers’ installation at the Darwin Waterfront.

Char Restaurant Darwin will offer an indulgent dining experience with a luxury limousine pick up, a spectacular Darwin sunset, dinner at Char Restaurant paired with matched wines and an exclusive Bruce Munro: Tropical Light tour.

Crocosaurus Cove will offer a special twilight experience featuring performers from the Burning Circus in an exciting showcase of flame throwing and crocodiles.

Walk Darwin has a new ‘Tropical Light Artscapes’ walking tour, taking in four of the Tropical Light installations while exploring street art throughout CBD laneways.

It is anticipated that the new tours will increase visitation and enhance the viewer experience of Tropical Light, allowing locals and tourists to view the exhibition in a variety of different ways.

Members of the public are encouraged to register online for updates on the 2.5km arts trail, information on how to access the audio guide and the eight illuminated sculptures via www.tropicallight.com.au.

Quotes from Northern Territory Major Events Company Chief Commercial Officer Toni Cutler:

“The world-class Bruce Munro: Tropical Light exhibition will drive increased visitation over Darwin’s Tropical Summer, creating jobs, opening up new opportunities for local businesses and strengthening our economy.

“Specialist mentoring and advice is available to local businesses to help with developing tailored tours and packages.

“I would encourage businesses to get in touch and see how they can get the most out of the expected influx of visitors over this period.”

Quotes from Sea Darwin Owner Jim Smith:

“Sea Darwin’s Tropical Light Unplugged Twilight Cruise offers a small group experience featuring a 45 minute sunset and twilight cruise on Darwin Harbour before returning to Kitchener Bay to view the stunning ‘Water Towers’ installation, one of the Bruce Munro’s Tropical Light installations.

“We swap nature’s light for illuminated light with passengers disembarking at Stokes Hill Wharf, in perfect proximity to walk through the Waters Towers installation along the Sea Wall and in to the Darwin Waterfront Precinct which features three more of the Bruce Munro: Tropical Light installations.”

Quotes from Crocosaurus Cove, General Manager Penny Eckel:

“Bruce Munro: Tropical Light Exhibition is a wonderful opportunity for our business to showcase our attraction in the evening.

“Under the park's subtle lights, we will present tropical inspired reptile presentations and family entertainment, including face painting and a LED light show by local business Burning Circus.

“We look forward to welcoming Darwin locals and visitors to the Top End during our Tropical Summer period.”
