2019 Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award Open for Entries

Senior Territorians’ lives, histories and their contributions to the Territory will again be celebrated with the prestigious 2019 Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award now open for entries.

The Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award and Exhibition commenced as a one-off event to celebrate the International Year of the Older Person in 1999 and has since grown into an annual acquisition award that showcases the artistic talents of NT artists and celebrates our senior Territorians.  

Since 2017 the winning artwork has been acquired by the Northern Territory Government as part of the Araluen Arts Collection.

Portrait of a Senior Territorian offers a prize pool of $10,500 with first prize a $7,000 Acquisition Award, second prize $2,000, third prize $500 and the People’s Choice Prize $1,000. 

This year’s Award and Exhibition will be hosted by the Northern Territory Library in Parliament House with winners announced at the opening on Friday 8 November and the exhibition on display until Sunday 15 December 2019.   

The People’s Choice Prize of $1000 is determined by public votes submitted across the exhibition period and will be announced at the close of the exhibition.  

The Award is open to artists aged 17 years and over who are residents of the Northern Territory.
