Nominations now open for the NTIS High Performance Officiating Program

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

The Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture is inviting Peak Sporting Bodies to nominate high performing sporting officials for 2020 NTIS High Performance Officiating Program (HPOP).

The program, the only one of its kind operating in Australia, recognises and supports up to ten officials to pursue development opportunities with the support of a mentor. It enables participants to attend high level competitions, participate in professional development workshops, and undertake a ‘give back’ project within their sport to assist the development of officiating in the NT.

A fully integrated mentor development program is conducted to assist the nominated mentors within the NTIS HPOP.

There are a number of professional development sessions involved in the 2020 NTIS HPOP including two weekend workshops, monthly education sessions and various E-Learning opportunities. The program covers a number of topics of importance to officials including nutrition, pre/post match preparation, resilience, self-regulation and behaviour profiling.

Officials selected in the 2019 NTIS HPOP represented a variety of sports including Australian football, cricket, football, netball, tennis and touch.

Nominations open 19 August 2019 and close 16 October 2019.

Quotes from Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture, Senior Director, Dr Ian Ford

“The NTIS High Performance Officiating Program is an important program to not only recognise the Territory’s top level sporting officials, but to also strengthen the quality of sports across the Territory for the benefit of the wider sporting community.

“Sport facilitates a number of positive pathways for a wide range of people, and HPOP provides us with the opportunity to bolster an already important network of officials and mentors from sports across the Territory.”

Quotes from Nassir Joomun, Football Referee, 2019 NTIS HPOP Selected Official

“Through the NTIS High Performance Officiating Program I have learnt routines to assist me if and when I make a mistake. I now am a more confident and resilient referee thanks to the HPOP.

“Being involved in HPOP with officials from other sports with the same passion has really provided me the boost to continue my officiating journey.”
