Applications now open for Chief Minister’s 2019 Peace in the Pacific and 2020 Anzac Spirit Study Tours

Territory students are invited to apply for a place in two immersive study tours, being offered by the Northern Territory Government.

The study tours educate young Territorians about the crucial role of our defence force in Australia’s history, the importance of current Australian Defence Force peace-keeping missions and create awareness of the continuing significance of military commemorations

2019 Peace in the Pacific Study Tour

The Study Tour will promote the significance of Australia’s enduring relationship with the United States of America and the Northern Territory Government’s commitment to Defence and Defence support initiatives

Understanding the shared experience and sacrifice of the people in the Northern Territory and Hawaii is another element of the program.

Three students, one teacher and one Australian Defence Force chaperone will be selected to participate in the Study Tour which includes visits to military sites, the Pearl Harbor National Memorial and USS Arizona, the Bishop Museum; I’olani Palace and a local high school where they will interact with Hawaiian students.  Tour dates are currently being finalised, and will align with the Pearl Harbor commemorations on 7 December 2019. 

The participants will keep a digital diary to be shared on multimedia channels and on their return, share their experiences and learnings with fellow students, teachers and members of the community.

To enter, Territory students in Years 10 and 11 are invited to submit a response to the following question: ‘Australia, Japan and the United States: How did the peace process contribute to the spirit of friendship and cooperation between the three countries after WWII? 

Students may respond to the question by essay, poem, song, video, music, artwork or digital media.

Entries close at COB 26 July 2019.  Successful applicants will be announced in September 2019.

The NT Government will provide support for travel and accommodation costs.

2020 Anzac Spirit Study Tour

The Study Tour will promote the significance of Australian Defence Force’s enduring relationship with the Allied Forces and the Northern Territory Government’s commitment to Defence and Defence support initiatives.

The Chief Minister’s Anzac Spirit Study Tour has been taking place since 2010, with three Territory students and two chaperones selected each year to represent the Northern Territory in France and Belgium and participate at the official Anzac Day commemorations at Villers Bretonneux France.

Three students, one teacher and one Australian Defence Force chaperone will be selected to participate in the Study Tour which includes visits to historic military history sites in France and Belgium that are significant to Australians.  Next year’s tour dates are currently being finalised and will align with Anzac Day on 25 April 2020. 

The participants will keep a digital diary to be shared on multimedia channels and on their return, share their experiences and learnings with fellow students, teachers and members of the community. 

To enter, Territory students in Years 9 and 10 are invited to submit a response to the following question: What inspiration does the Legend of the Anzac Spirit provide for youth in the 21st Century? 

Students may respond to the question by essay, poem, song, video, music, artwork or digital media.
