Meet your 2019 Creatives in Residence

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

Three NT creatives have been selected for the 2019 Creative in Residence program with each artist receiving $30,000 to take up residency at the Araluen Cultural Precinct, the Northern Territory Library and the Northern Territory Archives Service from July 2019.

The artists will work in the venues over three months or more to engage with the Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture’s unique NT collections.

This year, the artists are:

Alicia Scobie – Tennant Creek Truths - Northern Territory Library

Based at the Northern Territory Library in Darwin from July to November 2019, musician Alicia Scobie will use her residency at the NT Library to write, record and release a five-song EP and a lyric art book under her band name of Leash and the Dusty Boots. The work will be based on the Tennant Creek/Barkly Region collection held at the Northern Territory Library. Songwriting workshops will be offered in Darwin and Tennant Creek. Residency dates – 1 July – 5 November 2019

Neridah Stockley – HERMANNSBURG and PAINT - Araluen Cultural Precinct

Based at the Araluen Cultural Precinct in Alice Springs from July to October 2019, visual artist Neridah Stockley will use her residency to research and develop an artistic response to the Hermannsburg Historic Precinct and the Araluen Collection with a showcase exhibition at the Araluen Arts Centre in mid-2020. Artist talks and plein air (outdoor) workshops will be held at sites of significance around Alice Springs. Residency dates – 15 July – 7 October 2019

Katy Moir –A Hypothetical Darwin - Northern Territory Archives Services

Katy Moir’s residency will explore a Darwin that hasn't been realised yet and develop a series of designs of public spaces and infrastructure to encourage the community to reimagine space and to think about how we can utilise the existing built environment.  The broader community will be invited throughout the residency to view, engage with and discuss the developed designs. Residency dates – October 2019-March 2020

The Creative in Residence program, offered through the Northern Territory Arts Grants Program, enables artists to connect with NT’s collections, and to interpret the information in new ways to create new artistic works.

The program started in 2017 and since then, seven NT artists have taken up the opportunity to work with some of the NT’s cultural collections.

The Creative in Residence program increases public engagement with the collections and provides opportunity to see artists creatively activate public spaces.
