Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

Thousands of viewers across Australia had a front-row seat at the television wedding of the year this morning, when Nine Network’s Today Win a Top End Wedding competition winners Lauren and Steve said ‘I do’ at picturesque Pee Wee’s at the Point.

The competition, a partnership between the NT Government and the Nine Network, is leveraging the Top End Wedding movie, which was released in cinemas last Thursday.

The wedding followed months of national coverage for the NT as the couple visited destinations across the Top End. Storylines aired to hundreds of thousands of Australians tuning into Today included the loved-up duo choosing their Territory honeymoon at Bullo River Station, learning the location of their wedding ceremony, and catching up with family at Nitmiluk National Park – showcasing jaw-dropping views and incredible Territory experiences to the nation.

Several Territory businesses received exposure through the Win a Top End Wedding competition coverage, including wedding planners, Creative Two, and fashionable Darwin venues Pee Wee’s at the Point and Wharf One – the locations for the wedding ceremony and reception. Mindil Beach Casino & Resort, Crocosaurus Cove and Outback Floatplane Adventures featured after hosting the hen and buck celebrations, and even favourite Territory foods got a look in, such as NT prawns, green pawpaw salad and Spanish mackerel.

Dubbed as the television wedding of the year, Lauren and Steve’s Top End Wedding was broadcast live on Today this morning, illustrating to viewers that Darwin is a modern, diverse city, surrounded by stunning landscapes and experiences.

Quotes from Deputy CEO, Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture, Andrew Hopper:

“The Top End Wedding movie and Tourism NT’s partnership with the Nine Network for Win a Top End Wedding have both delivered great national exposure for the Territory and all it has to offer visitors.

“The movie alone used the services of 180 local suppliers and vendors, injecting $1.526 million into our economy and creating 190 jobs.

“The competition has promoted many local businesses and tourist attractions to thousands of people across Australia, including those planning a destination wedding.

“Lauren and Steve were selected from 13,000 entrants vying for the $75,000 prize, and viewers have been eagerly following their wedding journey, discovering more about the Territory and the possibilities available here along the way.”
