NT COVID-19 update
20 January 2022
There were 459 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the Northern Territory in the 24 hours to 8pm on 19 January 2022. Of these, 364 were positive cases from a Rapid Antigen Test.
This takes the number of active cases in the NT to about 3,970.
New cases recorded include:
15 cases in Galiwinku4 cases in Yirrkala10 cases in Umbakumba. The source of the infection is from interstate travel. Health staff are in the community undertaking testing, contact tracing and providing the COVID-19 vaccine.
· 6 cases in high risk settings in Darwin including hostels, sober-up shelters and rough sleepers. This is in addition to four cases yesterday. Danila Dilba Health Service and Larrakia Nation are working together to undertake COVID-19 testing in high risk settings.
2 cases at the Darwin Correctional Centre2 cases at the Barkly Work Camp8 cases at the Alice Springs Correctional Centre with further testing being undertaken today1 case in the Old Timers Aged Care Facility in Alice Springs3 cases in Santa Teresa14 cases in Yuendumu
· 10 cases in Ntaria and surrounding homelands
There are currently 54 patients in hospital, with five patients requiring oxygen. One patient is in ICU.
1,114 COVID-19 PCR tests were processed across the NT yesterday.
Yirrkala Lockout lifted
The lockdown in Yirrkala will lift at 2pm today. There are now no restrictions on the reasons to leave home.
Significant testing has been undertaken in Yirrkala with more than 145 tests completed in the past two days. The spread of COVID-19 in Yirrkala has been reduced, with a total of nine cases, including five people in Yirrkala and four in Nhulunbuy. Anyone with symptoms is advised to get tested immediately.
Public health measures
To slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community and reduce the rate of transmission the following public health measures remain in place across the NT:
A Territory-wide indoor mask mandateA lockout in Alice Springs, Yuendumu, Yuelamu and Amoonguna until 23 JanuaryA lockdown in Galiwin’ku until 24 JanuaryThe Territory Vaccine Pass requires all people in the Northern Territory to show proof of their vaccination status to attend a range of businesses, venues, places and events
COVID-19 testing
Everyone should get tested for COVID-19 if showing symptoms. A number of NT Rapid Antigen Testing and Distribution Points [https://coronavirus.nt.gov.au/stay-safe/symptoms-testing] have been established. Individuals can collect RATs for free from NT distribution centres located in Darwin, Katherine, Nhulunbuy, Alice Springs and Tennant Creek.
