NT COVID-19 update
28 December 2021
The Northern Territory has recorded 16 new cases of COVID-19 since our last update.
Five new cases are linked to the NT outbreak, bringing the total number of cases for the cluster to 151.
The five cases are household contacts of previous cases in the Tennant Creek area. Four of the cases are in the Todd Quarantine Facility in Alice Springs, while the fifth case is in the Tennant Creek Hospital.
Four cases are interstate arrivals. One of the cases was in the community while infectious and attended a number of locations in Darwin. A number of low risk public exposure sites have been identified in relation to this case.
Five cases are close contacts of interstate arrivals and are all in isolation.
In addition, the source of infection in a case reported yesterday, has been confirmed as being acquired in the community. It is believed the woman in her 60s acquired the virus while at a Darwin City restaurant from a recent interstate arrival who was also there.
The Bamboo Lounge at Stuart Park has subsequently been listed as a close contact public exposure site. Anyone who was at this site on 21 December between 7.20pm – 9.20pm is required to self-isolate, call the COVID-19 Hotline on 1800 490 484 [tel:1800490484] and identify yourself as a close contact.
A number of low risk public exposure sites have been listed for the Darwin area. Some of these are linked to the woman referred to above and others are linked to a recent interstate arrival who returned a positive Day 6 test yesterday.
It is important all people in the NT check the COVID-19 website to review the list of NT public exposure sites [https://coronavirus.nt.gov.au/stay-safe/case-location-alerts-and-close-contacts].
There are currently 20 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including one in ICU. The majority of admissions are for the purposes of infection control and assessment.
Almost 1,180 COVID-19 tests were processed across the NT yesterday.
It is important all Territorians and visitors get tested for COVID-19 if showing any symptoms such as a cough, fever, shortness of breath, muscle aches, change in taste or smell and a sore throat.
The Nhulunbuy community is encouraged to get tested for COVID-19 following positive wastewater results.
COVID-19 testing sites are open in Nhulunbuy, Katherine, Tennant Creek, and Alice Springs. Testing is also available at NT Health clinics in remote communities.
