Advice Message – for Immediate Release

Fast-Moving Wildfire in Barkly South Friday, 25 July 2025

Bushfires NT is advising members of the public and landholders across the Barkly and Central Australia regions of a fast-moving wildfire near Gosse River Road in the Barkly South region.

The fire, driven by intense winds and dangerously dry conditions, is spreading rapidly and poses potential threat to the surrounding areas and communities. Crews are currently responding, but the speed and intensity of the fire is being exacerbated by severe weather conditions forecast to persist through to Saturday, 26 July.

Heightened Fire Weather Conditions:

A Fire Ban remains in place across Barkly North, Barkly South, Alice Springs Fire Protection Zone, Simpson West, and Simpson East.The Fire Danger Rating (FDR) for the Barkly and Central Australian regions is High with a heightened risk of dangerous and fast moving fire.Winds are expected to gust to gale and strong-gale force, with some areas experiencing gusts in excess of 90 km/h.Potential dry lightning activity and volatile wind patterns are anticipated throughout the day, further increasing the risk of ignition and dangerous fire behaviour.

Public Safety Message:

Members of the public are asked to stay up to date via the Bushfires NT Facebook page, SecureNT website, or the NT Fire Incident Map. [https://bushfires.nt.gov.au/incidentmap].For the safety of firefighting crews and other vehicles, drivers in the area are urged to slow down, turn on headlights and drive safely for the conditions. If you see a fire or smoke, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.Do not attempt to conduct any fuel reduction or burning activities at this time.
