Mango on the menu at Mango Ball and Mango Festival
A couple of delicious weekends are on the menu in October, with the Berry Springs Mango Ball scheduled to take place on Saturday, 21 October 2023, followed by the Berry Springs Mango Festival on Saturday, 28 October 2023.
Both events will celebrate everything we love about this iconic heart-shaped fruit, which is something of a national treasure and an iconic symbol of the Top End, supporting scores of jobs and injecting millions of dollars into the Territory economy.
The events will take place at Berry Springs Recreation Reserve, with the Mango Ball including a three-course dinner, live entertainment, door prizes and more. They come at the height of mango season, guaranteeing there will be plenty of delicious mangoes to go round.
The free family friendly Mango Festival the following weekend will include a host of fun activities, such as mango-eating competitions, a mango and spoon race, best mango jam, best mango wine, beset mango dish, colouring competition, fashion parade, biggest mango, a circus workshop and food, drink, craft and gift stalls.
These events are supported by Northern Territory Government through Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC).
Ticket sales for the Mango Ball close on 8 October 2023. Tickets cost $120pp. The Mango Festival is free to attend. Quotes from NTMEC CEO Suzana Bishop:
“Mangoes are synonymous with the Top End, and Territory mangoes are famous across Australia for being some of the best. Each year people across the country eagerly await mango season, so they can fill up on the Territory’s finest.
“These events will help us celebrate and pay homage to this humble fruit, which delivers so much to our economy and supports many jobs. They also give us an opportunity to get together as a community to have fun, make memories and support the local businesses involved in the mango industry.”
Quotes from Berry Springs Market Coordinator Melanie McMurdie:
“We’re excited to deliver these events for the community to share, and to celebrate all things mango! We’ve had an annual Mango Festival every year since 2015, apart from 2020, and we are constantly trying to improve by adding new elements each year.
“These events are supported by the local mango industry and local businesses who are enthusiastic about bringing these special gatherings to the rural area, so come along and help us celebrate!”
