Regatta with no water returns to Alice Springs
The iconic Henley on Todd returns to the dry riverbed of the Todd River, Alice Springs this Saturday, 17 August, for a fun-filled day of ‘Flintstone-style’ racing.
This year, the race returns in a shorter format as the Ultimate Off-Road Mini Henley on Todd 2024. Since the event began in 1962 the Rotary Clubs of Alice Springs has raised more than $1.7 million for charity through the event.
Attendees can still look forward to the same rambunctious fun as Kayaks, the Rowing 4s & Rowing 8s, plus the Mini and Maxi yachts run down the treacherous Todd River around a buoy and back.
The big boats will also return for the Battle of the Gun Boats finale featuring pirates, sailors and vikings firing flour bombs and water pistols. A special spot on one of the boats will be auctioned off with money going to the Combined Rotary Clubs of Alice Springs.
Additionally, there will be plenty of kids’ entertainment, including a lolly scramble, sand castle building, nippers events and running races on the sand.
The event is supported by the Northern Territory Government through Northern Territory Major Events Company’s Event Funding Program.
It will take place from 11.30am – 4pm in the Alice Springs Todd River and Snow Kenna Park. Tickets will be sold at the gate and are $10 a ticket with children 12 and under free.
