Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade Get online for the annual cattle sales

4 July 2022

The Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade is calling interested buyers to go online for the annual bull and cow sales.

The online auction will see highly fertile and climatically adapted Brahman and Tropical Composite cattle on offer, with the bull sale commencing at 10am Wednesday 6 July and cow sale on Wednesday 20 July 2022.

The department’s annual sales offer high quality cattle that have been selected for fertility and bred for the Territory’s conditions and markets.

Cattle offered for sale have Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) available, are run under paddock conditions and have been DNA tested. The bulls have passed a breeding soundness evaluation completed by an accredited vet.

The Bull Sale will have 47 Brahmans and 38 Composites on offer. The cow sale will consist of 125 highly fertile Brahmans and 58 Composites

The animals are a product of the department’s long term selective breeding program and current genetic research projects. The auction is providing industry an opportunity to invest in high-performance cattle that have been bred to be more productive, fertile and adapted to the Territory climate.

Interested buyers can make an appointment to inspect the cattle by contacting the department’s Livestock Research Officer, Gretel Bailey-Preston gretel.baileypreston@nt.gov.au

The 2022 auction will be conducted online by AuctionsPlus with a full catalogue provided by Elders. For more information, go to https://auctionsplus.com.au/auctions/cattle/ditt-2022-bull-sale/108886

Quotes from Deputy CEO Agriculture, Fisheries and Biosecurity, Luke Bowen:

“The departments’ annual cattle sale attracts interest from across Northern Australia as our herds are known for their high fertility and adaption to the Territory’s climate and conditions.

“The high clearance rate from last year’s cattle sale demonstrates the great value placed on this breeding program by industry seeking to maximise their herd productivity and performance.

“Together with industry we are breeding and raising more productive cattle.”
