BUSHFIRES NT MESSAGE: ADVICE #34

LOCATION: Barkly Highway, Epenarra, TABLELANDS including Canteen Creek.

ALERT LEVEL: Advice - A fire continues in the area. Monitor the situation for changes.

FIRE TYPE: Bushfire. INFORMATION CURRENT AS AT: 30/09/2023 10:20 hours.

STATUS: GOING - A fire which is spreading on one or more fronts. Effective containment strategies are not in place for the entire perimeter.

RISKS FACED BY PEOPLE IN THE AREA: Smoke from this fire may affect visibility. Firefighting crews may be working close to the roadside.

WHAT TO DO: Conditions may change, monitor conditions in your area. Stay informed until threat is reduced.

ADVICE TO THE PUBLIC: Smoke may be visible along the Barkly Highway. Please drive with care. Crews are completing the last section of a defensive backburn to the east of Canteen Creek which will secure the community. Crews are putting in a containment line from Canteen Creek to Elkedra. Water bombers are knocking out the remaining backing fire to the east of the community.

For the safety of firefighting crews and other vehicles, drivers in the area are urged to slow down, turn on headlights and drive safely for the conditions. For further information regarding bushfires, visit Fire Incident Map.
