Northern Territory Government

Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade Save the date for the Victoria River Research Station field day

27 June 2022

Northern Territory producers, cattle industry representatives and agribusiness owners are being advised to make space in their calendars for the Victoria River Research Station (VRRS) field day and Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) BeefUp Forum next month.

The event will be held on Tuesday, 26 July and Wednesday, 27 July at the VRRS site, (also known as Kidman Springs) which occupies 31,400 hectares in the heart of the Victoria River district.

Held in conjunction with the departments’ field day, the MLA’s BeefUp Forum is a great event to network with industry while hearing the latest research on topics such as biosecurity and new animal disease threat assessment, calf loss, live export and the carbon industry.

The integration of the Meat and Livestock Australia BeefUp forum and the VRRS Field Day provides northern Australian beef producers with an opportunity to hear from and interact with expert speakers and proactively examine developing issues and opportunities within the industry, with sessions including:

• Interactive Q&A panels on carbon, live export & pasture management

• Research updates

• MLA market update

• Paddock tour

• Networking drinks & dinner

There is the opportunity for suppliers to hold trade stalls at the event. Businesses or organisations that are keen to get involved should contact the Department of Industry, Tourism & Trade’s Livestock Extension Officer, Stacey Holzapfel, for more information at staceyholzapfel@nt.gov.au.

Registrations can be made for the joint department field day and BeefUp event and more information about the program are available online at www.mla.com.au//beefup.

Quote from Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade’s Deputy CEO, Agriculture, Fisheries and Biosecurity, Luke Bowen

“The field days are a great way for government, researchers, producers and industry to come together to share information, discuss projects and provide project updates.

“During the event the department’s Livestock Industries team will provide an update on projects underway at the Victoria River Research Station, as well as work on pasture production, selective breeding programs and calf loss mitigation measures.

“Agriculture is an important part of the Territory’s and Australia’s economy, and the department is working to support the industry and its growth through research, development and extension activities.

“Producers and industry experts wanting to find out more about the work and opportunities in the Territory should come to the Victoria River Research Station field day.”

Quotes from Meat and Livestock Australia’s Productivity and Animal Wellbeing General Manager, David Beatty

“Meat and Livestock Australia’s BeefUp Forums provide an opportunity for northern Australian beef producers to engage with the latest on-farm research and technologies with key service providers, researchers and like-minded producers.

“In addition to taking producers through the outcomes of our research and development projects, the BeefUp Forums also provide an opportunity to look at the priorities in the region to drive profitability and productivity on farm.

“They are only a few weeks left to register for the BeefUp forum and the Victoria River Research Station field day in July. We urge everyone to register and be part of shaping the future direction of the red meat and livestock industry.”
