Department of Education Empowering student voices with Youth Voice Peak Group
6 November 2023
The next generation of leaders in Years 10 to 12 in 2024 now have the opportunity to amplify their student voice in shaping Territory education by joining the next cohort of the Youth Voice Peak Group (YVPG).
Their voice will contribute to decision-making processes for policies and programs that impact them and their peers’ current and future education, employment, health and wellbeing outcomes.
The Department of Education's Chief Executive said the YVPG is a unique platform for students from across the Territory to foster a culture of inclusivity, diversity and innovation within our educational system.
“We know that young people are part of our future. They are the people education should be designed for, using their experience and advice on how education can be relevant and responsive to students of the 21st century.
The Youth Voice Peak Group provides them with this opportunity, where they can actively participate in moulding educational experiences for them, their peers and their school communities ," Ms Weston said.
Students from government and non-government school can apply until 1 December 2023 on the Department of Education website [https://education.nt.gov.au/committees,-regulators-and-advisory-groups/youth-voice-peak-group].

The YVPG is a key action of the Education NT Engagement Strategy 2021 – 2031, where young people have the opportunity to use their valuable insights to help guide teaching and learning that is meaningful for students of today and tomorrow.
“The Department of Education is committed to empowering student voices to foster inclusive education that is shaped by those it serves.
