BUSHFIRES NT MESSAGE: ADVICE #9

LOCATION: Simpsons Gap, BURT PLAIN

ALERT LEVEL: Advice - A fire is burning in the area. Monitor the situation for changes.

FIRE TYPE: Bushfire. INFORMATION CURRENT AS AT: 18/08/2024 16:45 hours

STATUS: GOING - A fire which is spreading on one or more fronts. Effective containment strategies are not in place for the entire perimeter.

RISKS FACED BY PEOPLE IN THE AREA: Smoke from this fire may affect visibility. Active fire may occur close to the roadside. Firefighting crews may be working close to the roadside.

WHAT TO DO: Conditions may change, monitor conditions in your area. Stay informed until threat is reduced. Avoid the area.

ADVICE TO THE PUBLIC: The fire is currently situated between Darken Drive to the east, Arrenge Bluff track to the west, Larapinta Drive to the south and the Rungutjirba Ridge to the north. Defensive backburning will be undertaken overnight to secure the western edge between Arrenge Bluff track to the Rungutjirba Ridge. Forecast weather conditions are expected to increase fire danger over the next few days.

Parks and Wildlife have reopened the following trails within Tjoritja/West Macdonnell National Park

• Section 1 – Telegraph Station to Simpsons Gap

• Cassia Hill Walk

• Simpsons Gap Bike Path

Section 2, Woodlands Trail and Mulga Camp campsite remain closed due to wildfire in the area. Those affected please contact the Simpson Gap Ranger Station on 08 8955 0310.
