Prepare. Act. Survive.

28 February 2022

Residents in Darwin’s rural area are encouraged to get involved with Fire Ready Week so they can prepare, act and survive this bushfire season.

Fire Ready Week runs 1-5 March at the Bushfires NT headquarters on the corner of Townend Rd and the Stuart Hwy in Acacia Hills.

Quotes by Bushfires NT Executive Director, Collene Bremner

“Fire Ready Week gives rural landholders and residents the chance to speak to Bushfires NT staff on how to prepare their rural property and create or update their Bushfire Survival Plan.”

“Heavy rainfall this Wet Season is set to fuel another dangerous Top End fire season and you need to know how to best prepare and protect your property.

“Anyone on a rural property needs to have a plan, from the smaller house blocks to large stations.

“We can also help you with weed ID, planning and management advice.

“Preparing and acting early makes a huge difference in how a bushfire can impact you and your neighbours.”

Ms Bremner said residents can book appointments to be held from 1-5 March to find out more about bushfire survival planning and Weed ID advice.

Those unable to book appointments are also welcome to attend the family friendly Open Day on Saturday, 5 March from 10am to 2pm, where residents will be able to:

· Find out more about volunteer bushfire brigades

· Meet representatives from the Gamba Grass Roots community group

· Learn more about the Gamba Army, Gamba Action Program and gamba spread model and bushfire risk.
