Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet NT COVID-19 update

29 December 2021

The Northern Territory has recorded 19 new cases of COVID-19.

Three new cases are linked to the NT outbreak. This brings the total case count for the cluster to 154.

The three cases are household contacts of previous cases in the Tennant Creek area. They are in the Todd Quarantine Facility in Alice Springs and were not infectious in the community.

The other 16 cases include:

· Two cases are international arrivals, one is in isolation at the Centre for National Resilience (CNR) and another has on-travelled to another state.

· Three cases in interstate arrivals. They are all in isolation at home or at the CNR.

· Eight cases in household contacts of interstate arrivals.

· Three cases from Darwin are under investigation.

Of the cases under investigation, two live in the same household as a recent interstate arrival. It is suspected they contracted the virus from this arrival but this is yet to be confirmed.

The final case is in a nine year old girl from Darwin. It has not yet been established how she contracted the virus. She has 18 close contacts at this stage.

There are currently 20 people with COVID-19 in hospital, but only four are classified as acute hospital admissions. No Covid-19 patients are in ICU. The majority of admissions are for the purposes of infection control and assessment.
