Celebrate nature’s palette at festival of foliage

Immerse yourself in a burst of colour and joy when the Northern Territory Caladium Festival returns to the Top End later this month.

This vibrant community event will take place from 9am-4pm on 18-19 November at the Foskey Pavilion, Darwin Showgrounds. It is a celebration of all things caladium, a tropical plant that comes in a range of colours, shapes and sizes, and is found in many Top End gardens.

Following the inaugural launch in 2022, the 2023 event has something for everyone to enjoy, from seasoned green thumbs to those just discovering their love of plants. This year the festival will feature competitions, displays, giveaways, prizes, food and drink offerings, and stallholders selling thousands of caladium plants, including new and rare varieties, and gardening products.

On the Saturday there will be face painting, balloon twisting, pot painting and colouring for the kids, and a performance by the Jameleah Bellydance Troupe. On the Sunday there will be a line-up of educational sessions, talks and workshops that will inspire the botanist in event goers.

All weekend there will be caladium-themed photography and art competitions, including painting, sculpture, jewellery and other media.

This event is hosted by Caladiums Northern Territory and supported by Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC). Weekend pass entry is $10 adults, $5 concession and under 18s free. Find the NT Caladium Festival on Facebook [https://www.facebook.com/groups/358496832781460].

Quotes from NTMEC CEO Suzana Bishop:

“The Northern Territory has an extensive events calendar, which caters to a variety of tastes and interests. It’s wonderful to see this niche event return to showcase a colourful part of the Territory’s vibrant community and rich culture, and it’s always fantastic when a new event returns a year later with even more to offer.

“It’s especially great to see events taking place during the traditionally quieter time of year, helping to extend the Territory’s events calendar. We are proud to support events such as the Northern Territory Caladium Festival, knowing the valuable flow-on effects they provide for our community in a social and liveablity sense.”

Quotes from President of Caladiums Northern Territory Kate Stevenson:

“The NT Caladium Festival had its first amazing year in 2022, and following the success of that event, this year’s festival will take place over two days with even more to see and do.

“We're passionate about promoting the beauty and diversity of caladiums and fostering a vibrant gardening community. The Northern Territory Caladium Festival is our way of bringing people together to celebrate these incredible plants, share the joy of gardening and encourage community engagement. It’s the ultimate fusion of botanical brilliance and family fun. Top End gardeners should not miss it.”
