The National Innovation Games Northern Territory series is powering up for the third and final Games bringing together Territory businesses, organisations and students with experts and leaders from industry and government.
Territory businesses and organisations have collaborated in a series of challenges to develop innovative solutions to better position them for the renewables economy.
The Territory series consists of three Games designed to enable businesses and organisations to uncover and harness opportunities in renewable energy, from new ways of thinking about product and service development whether as suppliers, employers, educators, service providers or product developers.
The Games have enabled businesses to access the next generation of talent, while students have been able to upskill, gain invaluable experience and unlock new employment opportunities.
The Territory Government recognises the role renewable energy plays as a driver of economic development, through the creation of local jobs, new investments and the delivery of clean and reliable power.
The Territory Series is also designed to contribute to the work being undertaken to support Territorians achieve 50% renewables by 2030 and zero net emissions by 2050.
This is the Territory’s biggest Games to date with over 150 participants collaborating in 16 teams. It will be delivered in-person at the Darwin Innovation Hub and online.
The Northern Territory series is co-sponsored by the Northern Territory Government, Industry Skills Advisory Council Northern Territory, National Energy Resources Australia, the Darwin Innovation Hub, Territory Generation and ABB.
The third Games will take place on 8-9 September 2021.

Minister for Renewables and Energy, Eva Lawler:
“The Territory is moving forward with exciting renewable projects. The growing renewable energy sector is a critical part of the Northern Territory economy and the Territory’s ability to meet 50% renewables by 2030.
“We want the Territory to have access to the best and most innovative technology, while also training our students for the jobs of the future, that’s what makes programs like the Innovation Games so important for our future renewable projects.”
Dominique Fisher, Paddl Co. Chief Executive Officer
“At the conclusion of the National Innovation Games Northern Territory Series, participants will have built a fantastic portfolio of solutions to support the transition to renewables, unlike anything we’ve seen in Australia.
“It spans marketing and community awareness; audit monitoring and benchmarking; community owned energy projects; energy storage and control systems; and more.
“And thanks to our generous sponsors, the Games are free to all and the IP is open source!
“It’s rare to have the opportunity to bring a whole ecosystem together – all levels of government, globally recognised experts, academia, businesses of all sizes, small business owners and employees. The Games and the Northern Territory have provided a model for how to do this. We are grateful to the Territory, our sponsors and everyone involved.”
