The Territory’s newest teacher recruits are preparing for the 2014 school year with 57 teachers attending their orientation program, 18 more than 2013.
Forty four are local Territory teachers of which 24 attended Charles Darwin University and 13 are from interstate to fill remote or specialist positions.
Orientation training will ensure these teachers are ready to teach in the Territory and will include:
· A formal welcome reception on 22 January 2013 in both Darwin and Alice Springs
· A full day workshop on 23 January in Darwin and Alice Springs
· Four wheel driving training for remote based teachers on Friday 24 January, and
· Regional workshops and workplace inductions upon arrival at their respective schools
Acting Minister for Education, John Elferink, said it was encouraging to see 57 eager faces, ready to be a part of this government’s new approach to education.
“It is especially important to see such a large number of new teachers coming from our own Charles Darwin University, it’s important to keep our bright minds here.” Mr Elferink said.
“The orientation will provide these new recruits with some vital knowledge on how to successfully operate in Territory schools and interact with the Education Department.
“Special skills, like four wheel driving, will be offered to those teachers taking up remote postings.
“These teachers have the opportunity to play a part in the change this government wants to see in education in the Territory.
“I would like to congratulate these teachers and wish them well as their education careers begin.”
