A little extra help to get back to school

Office of the Chief Minister

The Country Liberals Government will continue to support Territory families through the Back to School Payment Scheme entitlement.

The entitlement increased last year from $75 to $150 per student as a part of a Country Liberals election commitment.

Acting Minister for Education, John Elferink, wants to remind parents and guardians of the scheme to ensure it is redeemed before the closure date.

“Transition to Year 12 students have until the end of Term 1 (April 4) to redeem their entitlement while preschool students can use the entitlement within 10 school weeks of their date of enrolment,” Mr Elferink said.

“It is not necessary for parents and guardians to present any paperwork to redeem their entitlement, just enquire at their school.

“The entitlement is designed to relieve the cost pressures on parents associated with students returning to school and can be used to purchase a number of goods and services offered through their school.

“All Territory students are eligible to receive the entitlement, including government, non-government and Home School Students.

“This scheme was very successful in 2013 with 44,233 or 95.8 per cent of students utilising the entitlement, we hope to build on that result this year through our Back to School campaign.”

For enquiries on how to redeem the entitlement parents and guardians should contact their school directly.
