Poets and creatives to share talents at festival
Red Dirt Poetry Festival, a five-day poetry and spoken word festival, returns to Central Australia today with a jam-packed program.
Creative minds and thought-provoking words will inspire and excite attendees who can attend a range of events including performance poetry, panels and workshops.
The program features an Araluen Arts Centre re-staging of Agapi & Other Kinds of Love. This is based on Plato's The Symposium, Agapi & Other Kinds of Love which is a modern hip-hop opera embedded in the ancient Greek storytelling tradition. Greek-Australian poet and rap artist Luka Lesson's reputation as one of Australia's best storytellers shines as he takes us on a journey through the Ancient Greek kinds of love.
There will also be the Australian Poetry Slam – Central Australian Heat, writing and publishing workshops, and Moonrise Poetry – a night of poetry and storytelling at the Earth Sanctuary under the stars. The festival will also host a unique event in which participants on camelback traverse the desert landscape meeting poets along the trail who will share their works.
The festival is supported by Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC) through the Event Funding Program.
Red Dirt Poetry Festival kicks off on today and runs until Sunday 25 August. Events range from online to in-person and free and costed. To find out more and to book an event, head to [http://www.reddirtpoetryfestival.com].
Quotes from NTMEC CEO Suzana Bishop:
“The Red Dirt Poetry Festival is a unique event that draws creatives to the heart of Australia to share their works and learn from other like-minded people. The festival also offers an opportunity for local residents to get involved, learn about poetry and the spoken word, and see talented people share their works.”
Quotes from Red Dirt Festival, Festival Director Laurie May:
“This year we have aimed to bring a dynamic array of poets and performers to the festival both local and interstate to participate in a unique collection of events. From a poetry experience on camelback to a musical collaborative performance, there’s something for everyone, it is as always a privilege to bring this festival together.”
