BUSHFIRES NT MESSAGE: ADVICE - UPDATE #50

LOCATION: Barkly Highway, TABLELANDS

ALERT LEVEL: Advice - A fire is going in the area. Monitor the situation for changes.

FIRE TYPE: Bushfire. INFORMATION CURRENT AS AT: 14/10/2023 09:16 hours.

STATUS: GOING - A fire which is spreading on one or more fronts. Effective containment strategies are not in place for the entire perimeter.

RISKS FACED BY PEOPLE IN THE AREA: Smoke from this fire may affect visibility, Active fire may occur close to the roadside , Firefighting crews may be working close to the roadside , A bushfire is running or contained under very high to extreme weather conditions.

WHAT TO DO: Conditions may change, monitor conditions in your area. Stay informed until threat is reduced. Avoid the area.

ADVICE TO THE PUBLIC: The Barkly Highway will be closed between Barkly Homestead to Avon Downs from 12pm Saturday 14 October for up to three days, due to fire activity and back burning operations.

Motorists are encouraged to adhere to all traffic management and seek alternate routes during this time.

Driving in areas impacted by fire can be very dangerous. Please monitor the conditions closely and avoid unnecessary travel in the Barkly Region. Further updates on the temporary closure will be advised as soon as possible.
