LOCATION: Gosse River road, WARUMUNGU

ALERT LEVEL: Advice #18- A fire has started in the area. Monitor the situation for changes.

FIRE TYPE: Bushfire. INFORMATION CURRENT AS AT: 02/08/2025 09:30 hrs

STATUS: GOING - A fire which is spreading on one or more fronts. Effective containment strategies are not in place for the entire perimeter.

RISKS FACED BY PEOPLE IN THE AREA: Smoke from this fire may affect visibility, Active fire may occur close to the roadside, Firefighting crews may be working close to the roadside, A bushfire is running or contained under very high to extreme weather conditions.

WHAT TO DO: Conditions may change, monitor conditions in your area.

ADVICE TO THE PUBLIC: A bushfire is burning south of the Barkly Highway and fire activity is increasing due to escalating conditions. Heavy smoke is present in the area and may impact visibility with little warning. 41 Mile Bore Windmill Rest Area has been closed as a precaution. While the highway remains open the fire has the potential to impact the road in the coming days. Emergency crews are working close to the roadside and operational traffic has increased significantly. Motorists are urged to slow down, turn on headlights, drive with extreme caution and follow all directions from emergency services. Updates will be provided as conditions change.
