Department of Territory Families, Housing and Communities NT Government funding announced for NT artists to further their careers

Northern Territory artists are encouraged to apply for a Creative Fellowship or an Arts Residencies grant offered by the Northern Territory (NT) Government through the Arts and Culture Grants Program.

A total of $200,000 is available for early career, mid-career and established artists to develop their skills through research, professional development, skills and knowledge exchange.

The grants are part of the NT Government’s commitment to support a strong and vibrant sector through career development and to enhance the Territory’s arts, culture and creative economy.

Applications that benefit skills building for Aboriginal and remote artists and arts workers are encouraged, with at least one of the three creative fellowships on offer to be awarded to an Aboriginal applicant.

Creative Fellowships of up to $40,000 per applicant will enable an established artist to take time for a sustained period of research or professional development to support creative and career advancement.

Up to $20,000 per applicant is available to support Arts Residencies for early and mid-career artists to immerse themselves in a host arts or cultural organisation to receive mentoring, make art, collaborate, or explore and experiment with new ideas to produce a new work.

Applications that deliver a new artistic concept, artwork or body of work inspired or informed by the NT stories and history are encouraged.

Past recipients, including designer Ms Elliat Rich of Alice Springs, said the fellowships had been extremely beneficial to their careers.

“The research I undertook left an indelible imprint on my creative practice, which will resonate long into the future,” Ms Rich said.
