Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Taxi Fare Increase

The Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics has completed its annual review of taxi fares, resulting in increased distance rates for tariffs one and two, effective Monday 31 July 2023.

The maximum fares and charges for taxi fares will increase by 7.0%, bringing the Territory in line with the Australian Consumer Price Index (CPI).

Distance rates will vary depending on the region and time of travel, ranging from 12 to 19 cents per kilometre.

This fare adjustment will not impact the flag fall or tariffs three and four, which apply to high occupancy trips. These rates will remain unchanged, ensuring consistency for passengers in different travel scenarios.

By acknowledging the rising costs associated with operating an average taxi, the fare increase will provide stability to taxi industry members, helping to attract new drivers and incentivise both drivers and operators to consistently deliver high-quality service to passengers.
