Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade Darwin hosts SNAICC National Conference

5 September 2023

Darwin will host the annual SNAICC – National Voice for our Children Conference this week.

The Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade’s NT Business Events team partnered with the Darwin Convention Centre to secure the national conference. Commencing at the Darwin Convention Centre today, the event is expected to attract more than 1500 delegates and generate approximately $5.1 million of estimated delegate expenditure into the local economy.

For more than 40 years, SNAICC has been a passionate national voice representing the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.

Today’s conference will provide a safe space to learn, share and network about early childhood education and care, child protection and youth justice issues that impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Bringing together like-minded individuals and organisations for a celebration of culture and country, the event will focus on the work that is being done to elevate the voices of First Nations children and families.

Attendees will hear directly from children and young people about their lived experiences and issues that impact them, as well as evidence, policy and stories that celebrate the strength, resilience and expertise of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Quotes from Tourism NT Deputy CEO, Scott Lovett

“We’re thrilled the SNAICC conference is being held in the Northern Territory this year. The event is expected to generate approximately $5.1 million in delegate expenditure into the Northern Territory economy and showcase local products and talents at the Market Hall.

“These important events go a long way in helping us achieve NT Business Events’ ambitious target of delivering $68M in estimated delegate expenditure into the Northern Territory economy by 2030."

Catherine Liddle, CEO, SNAICC

“SNAICC – National Voice for our Children is excited to bring our 10th National Conference to the Top End in 2023.

“Garramilla/Darwin is an ideal place for our members, stakeholders and supporters to come together and share knowledge and ideas. SNAICC’23 is a time where we highlight the amazing work of our families, organisations and communities that supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children to grow up healthy, happy and safe.

“We look forward to gathering on the beautiful lands of the Larrakia people over the next three days to focus on the work we do to elevate the voices of our children and families, and for a celebration of culture and country.”
