LOCATION/S AFFECTED: Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre and Gorge Road

ALERT LEVEL: Advice - An incident has started. There is no immediate danger. Stay up to date in case the situation changes.

ADVICE TO THE PUBLIC:

Rainfall totals up to 83mm have been recorded across the Katherine River catchment in the last 2 days and minor flooding is continuing along the Gorge Road.

Further rainfall is forecast for the area over the next few days and river level is likely to remain around the minor flood level along the Gorge Road, during the remainder of Monday.

Katherine River Gorge Road:

Minor flooding is occurring along the Gorge Road.

The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre is currently at 3.16 metres and steady, with minor flooding. The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre is likely to remain around the minor flood level (3.00 m) during the remainder of Monday.

Katherine Town:

No flooding is expected at Katherine Town.

The Katherine River at Katherine Bridge is currently at 11.57 metres and rising, below the minor flood level. The Katherine River at Katherine Bridge is likely to remain below the minor flood level (16.00 m) during the remainder of Monday.

Flood Safety Advice:

The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people should:

Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.

Prepare for flooding and move away while safe to do so.

Don't drive into floodwaters.
