COVID-19 Update - Regional Victoria Hotspot Revoked

Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet

The Chief Health Officer has revoked regional Victoria as a hotspot for the purposes of travel, effective 6pm today, 8 June 2021.

Greater Melbourne remains a hotspot. A list of areas that remain declared hotspots for the purposes of travel can be found at https://coronavirus.nt.gov.au/travel/quarantine/hotspots-covid-19.

If you have any symptoms, book a COVID-19 test online or contact the COVID-19 Hotline on 1800 490 484.

The Chief Health Officer will continue to review and assess the COVID-19 situation across Australia, and will take into account COVID-19 monitoring and data collection, the extent of community transmission and risks to the NT community.

The risk of COVID-19 in our communities cannot be eliminated which is why it is important for everyone to follow all health directions.

  • If you are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine book in at your earliest opportunity
  • If you have COVID-19 symptoms, do not travel. Make sure you get tested and stay at home.
  • Maintain a physical distance of 1.5 metres at all times.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water and use hand sanitiser regularly.
  • Do not go to work if you feel sick.
  • If you have symptoms, stay away from others and get tested for COVID-19.

Quotes attributable to Chief Health Officer, Dr Charles Pain

“I have been monitoring Victoria closely this past few weeks and there have been no COVID-19 cases or transmission associated with regional Victoria exposure sites. This means I am able to lift the regional Victoria hotspot this evening.

“I would like to acknowledge and thank affected individuals who have cooperated with our Chief Health Officer COVID-19 directions, which are put in place to keep the Northern Territory safe.

“In revoking this hotspot it is also timely to remind everyone in the Northern Territory to come forward and be tested if you have symptoms.

“Recent events in Victoria show how important it is for everyone to play their part in fighting off this pandemic so we can return to life as normal as soon as possible.

“I would also like to thank and acknowledge all those who have come forward to be vaccinated, and are playing their part to protect their fellow Territorians by doing so.”
