Barra Bonanza! Fourth Season 6 Fish caught by Territorian

Northern Territory Major Events Company

Another red-tagged barramundi has been reeled in as part of Million Dollar Fish Season 6, bringing the tally to an all-time record high of four in just six days.

The latest $10,000 barra measured 57cm in length was reeled in by Rural Area resident Rowan Francis at Yellow Water in Kakadu in the early hours of Tuesday, 6 October.

The keen fisho said he’d registered for Million Dollar Fish every year since it started but never thought he would reel in a red tag.

Now $10,000 richer, Mr Francis said he looked forward to taking his award winning family of fishing fanatics on a bill fishing holiday.

This was the fourth Season 6 prize-tagged fish caught since the competition opened on 1 October, with $45,000 in prize money awarded to registered participants from the Territory and interstate.

There are still 97 $10,000 barra swimming around Territory waterways, along with seven $1 million barra and four Double-Tagged Barra waiting to be caught.

“Australia’s richest fishing competition continues to get bigger and better every year, and I look forward to seeing more locals and visitors hook onto prize-tagged fish as part of Season 6.”

Quotes from SportsBet External Affairs Manager Brad Fanning:

“SportsBet couldn’t be more excited to be awarding another participant a cheque for $10,000.

“This Season is shaping up to be a record breaker, and I hope SportsBet will soon be able to change one lucky fisho’s life by making them a millionaire.”

Quotes from Winning Fisho Rowan Francis:

“I’ve always registered for Million Dollar Fish but I never thought I would catch a red tag.

“We fish Yellow Water a lot so it was awesome to reel in a $10,000 fish there. The barra was only 57cm but any size is good with a red tag.

“My partner and the kids were asleep up the front of the boat when we hooked the fish – they thought we’d seen a croc when we started screaming!

“I’ll definitely be taking the family on a bill fishing trip with the cash prize.”
