Applications open for NTIS Officiating Development Program Round 2

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

Territory sporting organisations looking to upskill their officiating workforce are encouraged to apply for the second round of the Northern Territory Institute of Sport’s Officiating Development Program 2019-20.

The program provides funds for sporting organisations to upskill their coaches/educators of officials, send their officials interstate or to Darwin to gain experience and qualifications, and send Territory educators to remote and regional areas to conduct higher level training and accreditation.

Funding is available across two categories:

  • Category 1: Development of Officiating Coaches, Educators and Mentors - aims to assist sports with the development of officiating coaches/educators in the NT. Like athletes, it is critical that every official has support from quality coaches/educators to encourage positive learning and development environments
  • Category 2: Accreditation Courses and Competitions - aims to improve the skills, knowledge and experience of accredited sport officials within the NT.

Peak Sporting Bodies can apply for one or both categories and receive up to $4,000 per category, to a maximum of $8,000 in total.

Round 2 applications are now open via Grants NT until 25 February 2020.

Quotes from Dr Ian Ford, Senior Director Sport and Active Recreation:

“I encourage Territory Peak Sporting Bodies to apply for round two of the 2019-20 NTIS Officiating Development Program. The program supports and strengthens Territory sport by providing key funding to develop our sporting officials and official educators.

“The development program encompasses two main areas: development of officiating coaches/educators/mentors, and advanced accreditation courses and competitions with grants up to $4,000 available in each category.

“With the Arafura Games returning in 2021, I encourage sporting organisations to apply for the grant to assist with their officiating requirements.”
