Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

Applications are open to established NT artists and arts workers to apply for a Creative Fellowship valued at up to $25,000 per fellowship as part of the 2019-20 NT Arts Grants Program.

There are four Creative Fellowships available in the 2019-20 grant program to support established NT artists and arts workers to undertake research or professional development to benefit their own artistic practice and the arts, culture and creative industries in the NT.

The Northern Territory Government has awarded eight fellowships to NT artists and arts workers including 2019 recipients Daniel Wilfred, Marina Strocchi, David Garnham and Britt Guy and the inaugural 2018 recipients Mary Anne Butler, Johanna Bell, Karen Mills and Elliat Rich.

2018 recipient and Award-winning playwright Mary Anne Butler is enjoying the challenge of writing her novel informed by the advice and skills learned following a three-month novel-writing course in London with one of the world’s major literary agencies and creative writing school, Curtis Brown Creative.

Applications open today, 7 October and close Friday 29 November 2019 with the 2019-20 individual fellowship programs to commence after 1 March 2020.

Quotes from Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture, Director of Arts NT Angela Hill:

“The Creative Fellowships provide artists with support to further their professional arts practice and careers within the Northern Territory, nationally and internationally.

“They also recognise the outstanding achievements of established NT artists and arts workers and their contribution to the arts and culture of the Northern Territory.

“Investment in the arts through the Creative Fellowships supports capacity building for NT’s highly regarded arts professionals and the wider arts sector.”

Quotes from 2018 Fellowship recipient Mary Anne Butler:

“During the fellowship I learned a massive amount of craft skills and made some beautiful life-long connections and networks.

I've already facilitated one writing workshop to NT writers and will facilitate a 'Story in Six Weeks' writing course through the NT Writers' Centre in early 2020 to support local writers to further develop their own novels or stories.

“Back in Darwin I have my play CUSP coming up at Brown’s Mart Theatre and am busy writing my adult fiction novel, Highway of Lost Hearts.
