Nominations for young people to join the NT Youth Round Table or to become the 2020 NT Youth Week Ambassador are now open.
The Youth Round Table is made up of 17 young members from across the Territory and provides a platform to have their views and opinions heard on topics important to them and their peers.
Through design of a 12-month community-based project, the Youth Round Table provides young people with opportunities to develop their leadership skills and to effect change within their communities.
The nominations have also opened for the NT Youth Week Ambassador who is aged between 15 and 25 and dedicated and passionate about youth affairs.
The Ambassador will represent their peers and help to promote and plan NT Youth Week activities across the Territory between 14-24 April 2020.
Territory Families Chief Executive Ken Davies said that these important roles give young people the opportunity to make real change across their communities and develop skills to build their future.
“Territory Families continues to focus on ensuring the connection between young people, their families and their community is strong and that young people have a right to have their voices heard and respected,” he said.
“It is important to recognise and support young Territorians’ contributions to our community and nurture their growth for the future.
“We have a great community of young people in the Northern Territory who are empowered, inspired and engaged. I look forward to seeing what these amazing young people can achieve and contribute through next year’s NT Youth Week and the NT Youth Round Table,” he said.
Samuel Roussos said his experience as the Darwin 2019 Youth Round Table member has been amazing.
“I joined the Youth Round Table because I wanted a platform in order to share my ideas and perspectives and enact real change about the prominent issues affecting the youth of the NT and what I got was exactly that,” he said.
“So if you are thinking about joining the Youth Round Table I would heavily implore you to do so, because not only will you create life-long friends but you’re actually going to get a group that is going to listen to all your ideas and take them into real consideration.”
Applications for both opportunities close 31 October 2019.
