Applications open for youth grants

Department of Health

The Department of Health is now accepting applications for funding through the 2020 Alcohol and Other Drugs Youth Grants Program.

Grants of up to $20,000 each are available for community projects or initiatives aimed at preventing substance misuse by youth throughout the Northern Territory.

Northern Territory based incorporated organisations or community groups are encouraged to apply for projects such as:

  • Awareness raising and education projects for young people that promote healthy choices and activities
  • Sporting, cultural and community events that enhance young people’s level of connectedness that builds resilience
  • Activities which support young people to develop skills and learn
  • Projects that increase awareness of the risks of alcohol use among young people.

An example of a past project is the community safety mural at the Driver Shopping Centre. Neighbourhood Watch NT used an AOD Youth Grant to deliver a series of health and safety workshops with organisations including Headspace NT, Life Without Barriers and GAP. Forty-two young people were involved with the program that culminated in a huge mural that carries community health and safety messages.

A total of $271,000 is available in this round.

Applications must demonstrate how the proposed project relates to the National Drug Strategy 2017‑2023 and the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples Drug Strategy 2014‑2019.

Applications close Friday 11 October 2019.
