Territory Wildlife Park (TWP) is celebrating Threatened Species Day on September 7 and Biodiversity Month throughout September by revealing a new series of art installations through its Sculpture and Art in the Park event.
Each week during the month of September TWP will unveil a new artwork somewhere in the park to help raise awareness of the importance of protecting our flora and fauna.
Visitors are encouraged to come and explore the park to find
the sculptures while learning more about our natural world. Some of the
artworks will remain in the park permanently while others will only be on
display during September.
Artists who have a connection with TWP have created the
artworks over the past year using a range of materials, including ghost nets,
fishing line, clay, barbed wire, felt, fabric and even used teabags.
Each year TWP runs an Artist in the Park program that ends with an exhibition of the works produced by present and former artists hosted by the park. For the first time this year the works will be dispersed throughout the park, creating an art treasure hunt. There will also be a display of children’s art as part of the Threatened Species Children’s Art Competition.
Artists whose work will be included in the new exhibition
include Max Bowden, Maria Kraatz, Lisa Thomason, Angie Soares, Natalie Vigden,
Ella Barrett, Lyn Lambeth, Frank Simeone, Aly De Groot, Melanie Tribe, Janelle
Fisher and Jasmine Jan.
Quotes from TWP
Visitor Experience Manager, Simon Ferguson:
“Artists love the Territory Wildlife Park and our flora and
fauna produce plenty of inspiration for their work.
“Each week during September we will unveil new artworks at
different locations around the park, to encourage people to get out and about
and explore. Each artwork is unique, creating new points of interest around the
park.
“The new installations will also help us raise awareness
